I waited patiently on the couch for a few minutes. It was hard to control my nerves, having just been delivered such a load of information. What the fuck was happening to the two of us? This web was revealing itself to have quite an intricate weave.
Kara came down the stairs and into the living room a few minutes later. She was carrying an open laptop computer. Her cheeks were stained with tears.
She took a seat right next to me on the couch and scooted over right up against me with the computer on her lap.
âI hope you donât think itâs inappropriate for me to be showing you this.â
I looked at the screen and saw a paused video in which she was masked, naked and sprawled out on the bed of her studio room.
âWell,â I said, âitâs not really anything I havenât seen before.â
âThe part where Iâm naked, at least. But thatâs not really what Iâm trying to show you. Not that I mind.â
âOh, I donât mind either.â Maybe this commentary was inappropriate given the reason I knew she had for showing me this video, but it seemed like a comfort blanket for her as well as me. âWhat do you got here?â
She pressed play. Surprisingly, given what she was doing on the bed, the first thing I spotted was a mirror behind the bed where Iâd noticed the big empty space on the wall.
âThis is the first time it happened,â she said. âBut not the first time I noticed it. Pay attention to the mirror behind me.â
I did my best to focus on that instead of the beautiful body displayed on the screen that Iâd made love to so long ago and missed so badly. It was easy for me to ignore that distraction, however, as I once again saw a color. There in that mirror behind Kara was the same spectral form of Lila that showed up to me in my last video. I couldnât tell if she was floating or standing. I just know that it was her, and what little I could see of her ghostly face was staring vapidly from that mirror into me.
âIt might be hard for you to see, hun. Since you canât see color. But if you look right thereâ¦â She looked over to me and saw me trembling. âBlake, hun. Are you okay?â
âI see her. Kind of hard to miss. Her hair. I can see the pink.â
âAre you serious?â
âDead serious. Fuck, Kara. This is exactly what made me reach out to you.â
âYou saw her too?â
âYup. That was the similar confession I alluded to upstairs.â I reached into the pocket of my jeans. âHere. Look.â
I showed her the video on my phone and paused it where Lila showed up. There was about a minute of silence between us before she clicked open another video to break it.
âNow look at this,â she said. âThis is a video I made a few days later. This was the first one where I noticed Lila.â
She was laid out on a blanket, outside somewhere at night.
